Although the main season runs from opening night in September to the AGM in June, there is plenty of chess activity taking place over the summer.

This is a 30/30 event run by the Essex Chess Association, with two games played by each pair of players, for teams of 6.  In the 2014 event the club has entered two teams, with the first team drawn at away to Upminster B (match being played on 24 June) and the second team drawn at home to Ilford (match being played on 1 July).

Full results for the competition can be found on the Essex website here.

Baum Trophy

This is a 30/30 event run by the North Circular League on a league basis, with two games played by each pair of players, for teams of a minimum of 4.  The club has entered three teams.

Fixtures and results are shown on the following page.

Essex Team Blitz

This is an annual event organised by the Essex Chess Association for teams of 4 in which the club normally enters at least two teams.  This year it will take place at Ilford Chess Club on 29 June, sponsored by King & King.

Sam Black Memorial Blitz

On 30 June the club hosted on behalf of the North Circular League the 12th Sam Black Memorial Blitz, a 6 round event with two games in each round.  This year the event comprised a single Open section (40 entrants including club members David Spearman, Larry Marden, Mark Murrell, Philip Staniland, David Smith, Peter Nickals, David Bailey and Nic Charles).  Clear winner  with a perfect 12/12 was GM Bogdan Lalic.

The cross-table can be found on the North Circular League website here.

This match was successfully revived as an annual fixture in 2010.  The 2014 event will take place on 30 August.

Capes Trophy
