1. The Club shall be known as the Wanstead & Woodford Chess Club.

2. The object of the Club shall be to provide facilities for the playing of Chess and its derivatives.

3. The following shall be eligible for membership:

(a) Natives and residents of Wanstead or Woodford.

(b) Any other persons at the discretion of the Committee such persons to have right of appeal to the next General Meeting in the event of an adverse decision.

4. Subscriptions and board fees shall be as decided from time to time at the Annual General Meeting. Subscriptions shall be payable on 1st September each year; a member who has paid the due subscription shall be entitled to the benefits of membership until the following 31st August, subject only to the provisions of Rule 9.  For new members joining after the commencement of the season or for old age pensioners or any other cases the Committee may approve a deduction may be made.

5. On a subscription being three months in arrears, the defaulter shall be liable, subject to fourteen days notice, to forfeiture of membership and all rights appertaining thereto.

6. The management of the Club shall be vested in a Committee consisting of the President, the Chairman, Hon. Secretary, Hon. Treasurer, Match Captains, Tournament Secretary, Webmaster, Publicity Officer and three other members, five to form a quorum.  At all meetings, the Chairman shall have a casting vote.  The Committee shall have power to fill all casual vacancies in their number.

7. The Committee may from time to time make vary and revoke by-laws not inconsistent with these Rules to regulate the internal affairs of the Club and the conduct of the members.  All by-laws are binding on the members until revoked by the Committee or at a General Meeting.

8. The Officers and Committee shall retire annually but shall be eligible for re-election.

9. The Committee shall have power to cancel any membership or to reject any application for membership subject to a right of appeal to the next General Meeting.

10. A meeting of members to be known as the Annual General Meeting (six members to form a quorum) shall be held as early as practicable after the end of each season, when a statement of Accounts for the previous year shall be presented and Officers for the ensuing year elected.  The Meeting shall also appoint an Honorary Auditor for the ensuing year.

11. Special General Meetings shall be held at any time by direction of the Committee or within 14 days upon written request to the Secretary signed by not less than five members of the Club.

12. Notice of any General Meeting shall together with the Agenda be sent to all members not less than seven days prior to the holding of such meeting.

13. All games shall be played in accordance with the F.I.D.E Laws of Chess..

14. All property and effects of the Club shall be vested in the President and Hon. Treasurer for the time being as trustees for the Club but no personal liability shall attach to these Officers for the safe custody thereof.

15. No resolution for the dissolution of the Club shall be valid unless carried by a two-thirds majority vote at a General Meeting called for the consideration thereof.  In the event of a resolution being so carried the assets of the Club remaining after meeting all liabilities shall be disposed of as may be decided at such meeting.

16. Any of these Rules may be revoked, altered or added to by a resolution passed at a General Meeting by at least two-thirds of the members present.
