Club Championship 2013/14

The Club Championship is organised as a “Swiss” tournament over seven rounds, running through the season.  It is open to members 14 years of age and over, and younger players at the discretion of the Committee.

The usual time-table allows three rounds before Christmas and four rounds after.  Highest points score wins and in the event of a tie a play-off is held to decide the Champion.  The winner holds the title of Club Champion and the Championship trophy for one year, and receives an inscribed plaque for permanent retention.  The Champion has the right to take Board 1 for the 1st team(s) in Club matches in the following season.

Cash prizes are offered for following places; grading prize(s) according to entry have been announced by the Tournament Secretary as U100; 100 to U125: 125 to U150.  All results are submitted for ECF grading.

All points scored in the Club Championship count towards the Roy Wagstaff Memorial Shield.

3 Responses to Club Championship 2013/14

  1. Wim de Jong says:

    Mark,
    Two observations:
    (i) I am flattered to start the competition with a ‘Win’ to my name.
(ii)As competitors are alerted to Paul Barclay’s participation after an absence of many years I wonder why he has not been paired with Fin O’Regan for some first round fireworks.

    • johnu175 says:

The reference to “Win” rather than “Wim” de Jong in the round 1 pairings was down to the Webmaster rather than the Tournament Controller and has now been corrected.

    • Mark Murrell says:

I can confirm the accuracy of the posted results (Friday 30th September at 11:05 am) though I am still “on the run”.

As a matter of interest Paul Barclay did indeed have a challenging first round; his being the last game to finish on the night and with Andy Lu better placed for most of the game only to be defeated by the clock before he could explode the position.

Unfortunately the Controller’s discretion does not extend to entertainment value !!

      MarK Murrell
      Tournament Secretary
