2011/12 summary

Opening night – On 6 September 2011, Ian Hunnable, Terry Whitton and Philip Staniland gave a caterpillar simultaneous display against the Club winning 12-4.

London League – Teams played in Divisions 2 and 4 and the Minor Division.

Essex League – There was one team in each of the four divisions.  The most successful of the four was the second team, which finished runners up to Ilford.

North Circular League – Teams played in Divisions A and B,  the Lawrance and Finchley Cups and the Baum Trophy.  The second team were Champions of Division B, winning all ten of their matches.

National Club – the Major team began well by winning 3½ – 1½ away to Bishop’s Stortford, but bowed out 3-2  at home to Athenaeum in the quarter-final.  The Intermediate team lost at the first time of asking both in the main competition (1-3 to Bishop’s Stortford and in the Plate (1-3 to Hackney).

Lightning championship (defending champion David Spearman) took place on 20 September and was won by Charlton Siddo by a clear point.  The U115 grading prize was shared by Fin O’Regan and Terry Brown.

Club championship. This is a 7 round event (joint defending champions Ian Hunnable and Terry Whitton). Rounds were scheduled for 27 September, 25 October, 22 November, 10 January, 14 February, 20 March and 1 May. There was a 3-way tie on 6/7 between Ian Hunnable, David Spearman and Laurie Burtt, with Ian winning the tie break.

Blitz championship (defending champion David Spearman) took place on 3 January 2012 and was convincingly retained by David Spearman, 1½ points ahead of the nearest challengers.  Devdoot Barman won the grading prize..

Rapidplay championship (defending champion Larry Marden). This event was introduced in 2009. The 2011/12 event was held on 24 March 2012 and won by David Spearman, on tie-break from Larry Marden and Philip Staniland.

Summer events 2012

The Roy Wagstaff Memorial Match did not take place.
