Sam Rahabi left the competition after 2 successive defaults

Ian Hunnable and Terry Whitton contested a two game play-off for the title. The first game was won by Ian and the second by Terry, and the title will now be shared. Ian commented shortly after the game:

“In the first game, Terry blundered a piece in the middlegame. Tonight I got my blunder out of the way early, when I missed out a move in an opening sequence Terry and I have played numerous times: it cost m,e a pawn and, eventually, the game.

(Terry White) 1 Nf3 d5 2 g3 c5 3 Bg2 Nc6 4 c4 dxc4 5 Qa4. Now the correct move is 5…Bd7 when we get 6 Qxc4 e5 7 0-0 Be7 8 Nc3 Nf6 9 d3 0-0 etc.a posiion that has appeared in numerous games between us. Instead I played the next move in the sequence 5…e5?? 6 Nxe5 and eventually 1 – 0 (38 moves).

I can now reveal that this was my first loss in the Club Championship since 22 March 2005. The opponent to beat me on that occasion was…Terry”.

The 100 – U125 grading prize was won by John Jestico. The U100 grading prize is shared between Ben Dixon, Mark Le Gassicke, Matt Kay and Alan Summers who all scored 3 points.
